Foundation
For Historical Louisiana Marker
The Historic Marker program was initiated in 1977 by the Foundation to
call attention to Baton Rouge’s rich historical and architectural heritage.
The Foundation encourages private and public participation in the program
as a means of arousing public interest and enthusiasm in the history of Baton
Rouge. These educational markers are a visible compliment to the Foundation’s
mission of fostering an appreciation of our cultural and architectural heritage.

A. HAYS TOWN ARCHITECT MARKER
A. Hays Town, Baton Rouge’s renowned architect, is acclaimed
for his distinctive architectural style which adapts to modern use the traditional
elements of classic Louisiana architecture. In particular, Mr. Town is responsible
for reviving elegant French Creole design form indigenous to our state’s
culture. To preserve this legacy, the Foundation for Historical Louisiana
has established a permanent “Register of Residences Designed by A.
Hays Town.” As a part of this educational project, the Foundation is
proud to offer owners of these homes the opportunity to purchase a commemorative
plaque. Click here to
